Notes: First day of Practicum

November 1st, 2021.

My first Wednesday of Practicum was an amazing experience. Going into the school was exciting and scary all at once because I still had no idea what to expect. I met my AT around 7:30a and I was overlapping with another practicum student from another school and therefore met her as well. Throughout the day, I was able to observe as well as interact with the class by helping with questions, getting to know a few of them and get to know their interests. My AT had a very good understanding of her class and each students needs, their learning habits and the best way to communicate with them. By the end of the day, which went by super fast, I was less nervous and more excited to start learning more about the class and getting to really know the students (and having them get to know me)

OBSERVATIONS: The class as a whole was really on task and did not go off task when using the computers. They were able to focus in on subjects they enjoy and participate in the classroom setting.

All the seats are assigned and the students that need more attention or help are sat in the front or on the sides of the classroom. Most students were able to learn independently and focus on the work at hand. My AT believes in giving the students the information needed to complete tasks (ex: Math Quiz - students have access to the formulas in order to figure out their approach to certain math problems.)

Schedule: 8:00-8:40 - Phys. Ed (football routes)

8:40-9:40 - Science/History/Geography 9-9:40 - Grade 7s - Ergonomics & Grade 8s - Rube Goldberg

9:40-10:00 - Language Arts- Greek Mythology - assign mythology alphabet (5Ws and 1H)

10:00-10:20Nutrition Break - NO Duty

10:20-10:40Recess - NO Duty

10:40-11:20 - Language Arts - same as before recess

11:20-12:20 - Math 11:40-12:20 - Area of circles - Circumference quiz 12:20-12:45 - Nutrition Break - Duty in the upstairs hallways

12:45-1:10 - Recess

1:10-1:50 - PREP

1:50-2:30 - Science

Big Takeaway: Always have a backup plan! There was supposed to be a presentation between 1:50 and 2:30 but they cancelled at the last minute and my AT had a backup plan set up right away.

Overall, I loved my first day and I can't wait to experience more
