ENGAGING PARENTS & PLANNING FOR TRANSITIONS
Working with parents is one of the responsibilities of teachers. As the primary educator in their children’s lives and as partners in education, parents contribute to a holistic understanding of our students.
Presenter: Jeffrey Barber, OTF

This presentation touched on different resources and strategies to engage with parents professionally. One big takeaway from this was to look at communication from parents in a good way rather than a bad way. Parents are partners and not enemies.
The expectation of engagement should vary and be an ebb and flow relationship in order to support the student.
It’s good to remember that we function as a system together and if we start to treat each other as the enemy rather than partners, we are not working to the benefit of the students.
